Michele is a fully qualified actuary and has recently completed a comprehensive coach training program. She worked in both the insurance and pension/benefits consulting industries for over 22 years, most recently as Chief Risk Officer for a multi-line insurance and investment group of companies. Since launching her own risk consulting and coaching practice earlier this year, she combines her extensive experience in the boardroom and diverse training background to coach other professionals and executives to be more effective immediately and to prepare them for future leadership roles.
Michele started her career in the insurance industry 25 years ago at The Co-operators – a group of Canadian multi-line insurance and investment companies – after graduating with a degree in Mathematics and Statistics. Shortly thereafter she began successfully writing the actuarial examinations and attained her Fellow of the Society of Actuaries credentials. More recently, Michele also earned the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst designation, also from the Society of Actuaries.
Early in 1995 Michele temporarily left The Co-operators when she and her husband moved overseas to Geneva, Switzerland. At this time, Michele had the opportunity to work as a Pension & Benefit Consultant for Watson Wyatt.
After a couple of years, they moved to Montreal where Michele began the MBA program at McGill. These plans came to a halt as they were fortunate enough to adopt 3 children within 14 months. This sudden family expansion prompted a move back to Regina in 2001 and Michele resumed working at The Co-operators in the Asset Liability Management area, which eventually evolved into the ERM department.
Michele’s responsibilities increasingly focused on implementing the ERM program, as she assumed roles new to the organization including AVP, ERM for Co-operators Life before being named the Vice President & Chief Risk Officer for Co-operators Group in March 2010, a position which she held until launching Elite Strategies in March 2014.
Along the way Michele realized that other professionals could benefit from her experiences in the boardroom and C-suite. Since developing people and leaders is a real passion for Michele, she began training through Coach U in the Core Essentials Program so that she could become equipped to coach others through their careers and lives.
